New Bowlers in 2021 and 2022

We have had a very successful recruitment period over the past few months, with up to 30 new members joining the club.  So there is an air of excitement and optimism as we introduce the new bowlers into all the bowling and social activities that West Mersea Bowling Club has to offer!

Joining any new club can be slightly confusing, especially with our club being blessed with all year round bowling on both outdoor and indoor rinks. So hopefully a few introduction tips may help.

The first thing we make available to new members, who haven`t played before, is 3 to 5 sessions on the rinks with one of our coaches, who will explain how the game is played and run through the basic rules, using bowls of various sizes and weights to suit everyone.

They will also introduce you to other members, who will help explain how the club is run, what all those notices are about, what to wear and - where the Bar is etc!  Though the most important question is How, When and Where can I practise or join others to play?

Below is the Winter Indoor Weekly Session Sheet. All the empty time slots are available for bowling. Please book the time slot and rink in The Rink Book at the club.

Friendlies against other clubs

All the filled in time slots are regular league or social events, while all the blank periods are available for members to book.

Basically, there are 3 ways to start to enjoy your new sport:

A:         Members may fancy a quiet practise on their own, or with friends, then you can book any empty time slot for     one or two hours by filling in the Rink Book at the Club.

B:         Or if you want to just turn up and bowl socially with other members, then the Bowls Drive evening and Jowers    morning sessions are available. These sessions are popular and very useful for new bowlers in meeting others    and learning to play.

C:         Or you may feel ready to join one of the regular teams, just ask any member, as most teams are usually on the   look-out for new team members.
